Exploring Intrinsic Motivation and Knowledge Sharing from the Perspective of Islamic Teaching

Every individual hastheoption whether to share,or not share their knowledge. Literature suggeststhatthemotivation can be influenced by intrinsic or extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors are normally initiated and relative totheindividual’sinterest,or intention. Extrinsic motivation is subject the work environment, support system, andthe individual’s organisation. Thus, intention environment surrounding individual. This paper aims explain for Knowledge Sharing (KS)among academics from a public higher education institutionin Malaysia. In addition, it was proposedto study intention,and examine this relevant concept based on Islamic teaching. Usingthe explorative study, discussed results qualitative approachwhereeighteen were interviewedto collect data.Social Determination Theory (SDT) usedand, teaching, studypaid particularattention tothe ofbrotherhood ‘ikhlas’(sincerity).Thefindings of thatacademicsactingassubject matter experts, understood roleto knowledge significant influence in willingness share. Further, found thatthe ‘ikhlas’,or sincerity,and ‘happy help’, or‘happy see people happy’,matched coincidedwhen they sharedtheirknowledge.
